Yeah but. a common term used to excuse an individual from their intended task. To thwart any objection or counter argument as to why the task was not complete.
As I opened my comics this morning I was amused to see that an employer had fired his employee in one panel, only to give him a 2% raise in the next panel. As to say "Hey, 2% is better than nothing!"
They say that humor mimics real life and that comedy's best subjects are right in front of us. I am always amused when I hear kids say 'yeah... but'. As to add reason and/or conjecture to any frustrated parent attempting to get their child to own up.
My friend's daughter just received her report card and she received a majority of D's and F's. The bright side was a C in P.E. Her logical reasoning was as follows:
"Yeah, but at least I didn't fail everything."
"Yeah, but everyone in the school is doing worse than me!"
"Yeah, but the teachers are soooo stupid!"
"Yeah, but the work is harder than when you were a kid!"
...
AND THEIR LOGIC WORKS!! Why? Because in the kids handbook on page 18, it says, and I quote, "Argue everything because your parents will undoubtedly wear down and eventually give in because they know that this is somehow God's way of getting back at them for being the same way when they were kids." I know for a fact that this trait is genetic and is inherited from the other parent. My side if it is a good thing and my wife's side if it is a bad thing.
Parents: The ultimate comeback is on page 18 of the parent's handbook. It says, and I quote, "The end all of every 'Yeah, but' is ... BECAUSE I SAID SO!"
If you find humor in your child's behavior and excuses please let me know. I will add more quotes from the parent's handbook and the children's handbook in forthcoming blogs.. The intention of this blog is to assist parents in guiding their children in CHOICES. Sometimes it is black and white.. All you have to do is ask, and I quote, "Was that the Right Choice or Wrong Choice?" Inevitably you will get your answer as well as a child that will hate you for life just because you were right. :-) But as we read on... It is not always that simple..
